The University of Minnesota Extension Department for Youth Development works alongside youth and in partnership with communities to create a force of young people that learn and lead in a global society.

The 4-H Healthy Living Specialist is a leadership role that uses youth development programming to promote healthy lifestyles among youth living in Minnesota. Healthy living includes eating right and being active. It also includes getting good sleep, practicing mindfulness, managing stress, keeping mind and body fit and connecting socially. When individuals are leading healthy lifestyles, they are apt to promote health in others and the environment they live in.

The scope of work includes establishing a healthy living program area that engages a diversity of youth audiences and their families, including audiences from historically marginalized communities. This position will use research-based methods, develop innovative and relevant curricula, build appealing program models that attract youth audiences, and develop programs that produce intended outcomes. The position will partner young people, volunteers, community organizations and stakeholders, and UMN Extension staff to design, develop, implement and evaluate healthy living educational programs.

This state level role serves on the Youth Development Leadership Team and reports to the Associate Dean/Department Head. This position is an annual renewable University of Minnesota academic professional appointment.
