MCH Nutrition Council Webinar With External Experts – Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) and Nutrition in Washington State

This webinar’s presenter will be Khimberly Schoenacker, RDN, CD. Khim is a registered dietitian nutritionist with nearly 25 years of experience in the field of nutrition. She has spent the bulk of her career providing direct patient care to medically complex infants, pediatrics and young adults with disabilities. Khim has worked both inpatient and outpatient in pediatric hospitals located in San Diego, CA and Portland, OR; participated in two feeding clinics and was the lead RDN for a pediatric GI clinic. She has also worked in the home care setting and as a program manager and dietitian for WIC in WA state. Khim held the Board Certified Specialist (CSP) in pediatric nutrition credentials from 2012-2022 and finally let it lapse after taking her current position in public health as a Clinical Nutrition Consultant for the Washington State Department of Health with the Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs Program (CYSHCN). At a young age, Khim quickly discovered she wanted to go into the field of nutrition after growing up with a sister who had cerebral palsy. Her sibling was dependent on enteral nutrition feedings and 24/7 care and as a result, Khim spent a large component of her childhood at Seattle Children’s hospital and lived a life that evolved around her sister’s needs and care. This lived experience gives Khim her drive, her why, her passion and she holds an overflowing desire to create positive change and support for families just like hers.
