The Assistant Director of Food and Nutrition Services is responsible for the overall administration of Food and Nutrition Services/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (FNS/SNAP), which serves over 1.6 million individuals in North Carolina, providing hundreds of millions of dollars in food assistance benefits each year. FNS is part of a state-supervised, county-administered social service delivery system for 100 counties in North Carolina. The Assistant Director of FNS works closely with the Assistant Director for DCFW, Community Nutrition Services Section overseeing the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), as well as with the Division of Social Services and the Senior Director of Economic Security, to support the Department’s cross-divisional strategic planning and execution on nutrition and food security initiatives.
