Maternal and Child Health Nutrition encompasses a range of policy, programs and services including promoting nutrition wellbeing across the lifespan for women and children.

The MCH Nutrition Council, a part of ASPHN, provides national leadership for efforts to achieve optimal well-being through healthy eating and active living among the maternal and child health population, including those served by Title V/MCH Block Grants. MCH Nutrition Council members represent a wide array of practices. Council members advocate for nutrition policies, programs, and services that improve the wellbeing of women, infants, children, adolescents and families.

MCH Nutrition Council Members have the opportunity to:

  • Promote the importance of healthy eating and active living among women, children and families.

  • Raise awareness of the importance of evidence-based public health nutrition within the MCH community.

  • Engage in advocacy and public policy development that influences healthy eating and active living among women, children and families.

  • Develop leadership skills by participating in Council and ASPHN activities.

  • Participate in projects that support and achieve the nutritional wellbeing of the MCH population.

  • Share resources, ideas and information with peers. at annual meetings, on conference calls and through Council work.

Types of Membership

MCH Nutrition Council Liaison

Each state MCH Director, in consultation with that state's ASPHN Designee, selects an MCH-funded nutritionist or other nutrition staff member to be their state's Council Liaison.

Council Member

Any ASPHN member (designee, expanded, or associate member) interested in maternal and child health may join the Council.
