The ASPHN Board of Directors met on December 8, 2023. There was no November 2023 meeting.
- One (1) Appointed member was approved: Natasha Jones (WV).
- Nine (9) General member applications were approved: Janet Ortiz (FL); Samuel Foulchag (HI); Laura Bykowski, Dawn Gorden, Cynthia Murphy and Nefaterria Phillips (MO); Dongsoo Jeon (NJ); Erica Johnson (OR); and Shoko Kumagai (WA).
- Eleven (11) Associate member applications were approved, including six (6) students: Kdayjah Council (AL); Martha Henze (CO); Emily Holbrook (ID); Anisa Fought-Boudaia and Kendall Lowns (IL); Noah LeJeune (LA); Gladys Emefa Hlorgbe (TN); Christian Carbajal (TX); Autum Perron and Kendall Ross (VT); and Katie McConaughy (WA).
- Policy Committee actions on behalf of ASPHN since last board report:
- Did not opt out of the AND’s sign-on request supporting the MNT Act reintroduction in both the House and Senate with language similar to the language from the 117th Congress. ASPHN signed on in support of the initial bill. Sponsors in the 118th Congress are Senators Collins and Peters, and Representatives Kelly and Kiggans.
- Signed on to the CSPI letter addressed to Congress in opposition to the cheese carveout rider in FY2024 appropriations.
- Signed on to endorsement of federal legislation led by Senator Markey supporting USDA’s shift toward values-aligned food procurement.
- Signed on to AMCHP letter addressed to members of Congress opposing proposed cuts to Title V SPRANS dollars and calling for the restoration of all components of the Title V MCH Block Grant with increased funding for Title V to at least $1B.
