
The ASPHN Board of Directors met on September 8, 2023.
- Two General member applications were approved: Siobhan Donegan and Rebecca O’Reilly (VT).
- Twenty-two Associate member applications were approved, including twenty-one students: Mansi Chapatwala, Sarah Flores,Valerie McMillan, Gabrielle Mollineau, Erin Noonan and Madeline Stackhouse (LA); Julia Lang (MN); and Haley Anderson, Jada Branch, Matthew Craine, Tyrek Funderburk, Brandon Pahl, Kenneth Parmer, Jarrett Paul, Peyton Darnell, Donovan Gregory, Jocelyn Guzman, Grace McKee, Jurnee McLaurin, Victoria Rodriguez, Logan Smith and Oliver Wilson-Cook (NC).
- The motion to accept the Independent Auditor’s Report prepared by Brady, Martz & Associates, P.C. for the 2021 and 2022 ASTPHND/ASPHN financial records passed unanimously.
- The motion to approve listing the Association of State Public Health Nutritionists as a member of Breastfeeding Public Health Partners who contributed to the Lactation Equity and Inclusive Language Toolkit passed unanimously.
- The motion to approve the “Guidelines for How We Work Together” with 4 proposed edits in the Foundational, Self, and Group sections passed unanimously.
- Policy Committee actions on behalf of ASPHN since last board report:
- Signed-on to the Center for Science in the Public Interest‘s (CSPI) organizational comment to FDA in support of CSPI’s Added Sugars joint petition with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
- Signed-on to the organizational sign-on letter circulated by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) and the American Heart Association (AHA) supporting a bill introduced by Sens. Booker and Rubio, the SNAP Nutrition Security Act of 2023 (S.2326).
- Signed-on to the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) letter in support of the TRUTH in Labeling Act.
- Signed-on to the Human Milk Banking Association of North America’s (HMBANA) organizational sign-on letter urging the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) conference committee to include language on timely reimbursement of donor human milk under the TRICARE program.
